HISTORY and NON-PROFIT STATUS

AR Resources was formed in 2001 by a group of adventure race organizers desiring to grow the sport of adventure racing in the United States. Operating on no money and volunteer time, the primary objective of the group in 2001 was to locate and procure liability insurance and share best practices for race design, risk mitigation, and event management. ARResources is a 501(c)6 non-profit corporation.

NEW SERVICES
The sport of Adventure Racing has grown and both race organizers and participants face new challenges to continue this growth. In 2003 ARResources expanded its services to include race and event sanctioning services. ARResources has secured access to liability insurance for adventure race events and clubs for 2005 and 2006 (ARResources is NOT an insurance agent or broker: race directors procure insurance directly from a separate insurance provider!)

OWNERSHIP
ARResources is owned and controlled by the ARResources Organizer Members. Membership in ARResources is granted when a race organizer sanctions an event with ARResources. ARResources Membership is contingent on the Organizer abiding by the terms of the Sanctioning Contract and membership lasts for 1 year from the Organizer’s last sanctioned event.

OFFICERS and BOARD MEMBERS
ARResources Organizer Members are responsible for electing the organization’s Officers and Board. ARResources’ day-to-day operations are the responsibility of an elected Executive Director and elected Secretary. The organization’s activities are overseen by a public three-person Board of Directors (the Executive Director holds one seat one the Board). The organization of ARResources was specifically designed to make sure the organization is controlled by its membership. All officer positions are voluntary. ARResources currently has no paid staff.
